Chairman's Notes - December 2023

Dec 17, 2023 ·   Chairman's Notes

Managers, we are disappointed that we had to cancel the 50's State Tournament, to say the least.  However, after being in the rain all day today, and knowing more is coming, we did make the proper and safe decision.  We will not make up the State Tournament because of the lack of fields in January, and not wanting to bring a hardship on your 2024 roster in February.  The Teams of the Year in the 50's Divisions will be awarded some nice gifts instead.  Teams of the Year are determined by the number of points won in a giv ...

Chairman's Notes - November 2023

Nov 27, 2023 ·   Chairman's Notes

Managers, we are already at the end of November, and looking toward our State Championships in the next few weeks.  For the most part, we had decent weather, except for losing a couple of tournaments.  We had to move Venues, and go to 'shortened games' on occasion, but in the end, most of our games were played, which is exactly what we all like.  We are just like little boys when it comes to playing ball.  When we play, we are generally happy, and when we don't, we are very sad.  But, the beauty of our FHC League i ...

Chairman's Notes - October 2023

Oct 01, 2023 ·   Chairman's Notes

September just flew by, didn't it?  We were fortunate with the weather for both tournaments.  We really try to get our games in, but we are limited by a couple of things.  The first thing, is of course, the weather not just over that weekend but the days leading up to the weekend.  If it rains inches on Thursday and or Friday, the fields may not be available.  I personally have met with all of our Maintenance Supervisors, and they know how large we are, and we bring many games to play, so they will try to get the f ...

Chairman's Notes - August 2023

Aug 24, 2023 ·   Chairman's Notes

Managers, I have a few things for you in this August Chairman's Notes.   As you all know, we are very cautious about the weather, especially during the hurricane season, which we are in right now.  We are going to cancel any tournament in which our members lives may be at risk.  This is our policy and that will not change.  We cancelled the Vero Area Tournament because there was bad weather in the days leading up to the tournament, and the possibility and stormy weather on the weekend.  To save you money we alway ...

Chairman's Notes - July 2023

Jul 30, 2023 ·   Chairman's Notes

Manager's, August is upon us, and it seems like it was just Super Bowl time.  Like my Grandfather said many times, "The older I get, the faster the time flies."  Isn't that the truth?   Even though we are not meteorologists, we really do watch the weather weeks ahead of a tournament, as well as communicate with our local Sites, and try and determine what kind of weather we are going to have, and then determine if we need to go with 'shortened games' or move to different locations.  We have already done that many times ...

Chairman's Notes - June 2023

Jun 06, 2023 ·   Chairman's Notes

Managers, whenever we send out an announcement of any kind, please forward that to every member of your Team.  Many of our Managers already do that, but all too often we send out something important, and at the very next tournament a Player says "I have never been told that," or something close to that statement.  So, please communicate with your Players.  If you do not have computer skills, someone on your Team does, so get them to forward the information out.   I have a few things for you:   I want to remind ...

Chairman's Notes - October 2022

Oct 16, 2022 ·   Chairman's Notes

Managers, all of us in FHC are heartbroken over the results of the Hurricane.  Whether you are a Player, Manager, Coach, Umpire, Board Member or family member, every single person has been, or still is being affected by this terrible storm and water surge.  I know in my house, we are praying daily for all of those that are still dealing with the aftermath.  We are still on for our 60+ and 50s tournament in Polk County, and will be glad to get back and see our softball friends and families.  God bless you all. Remember ...

Chairman's Notes - August 2022 - Part 2

Aug 29, 2022 ·   Chairman's Notes

For some time now, we have been using our current points system.  As you know, a team gets points for winning games and brackets.  Also, if a team misses a monthly tournament, they will retain approximately the same ranking as before. You Managers voted on this last fall.  Rankings may be affected by teams below you winning a bracket and moving up, but also because of the Ranking Committee's observations.  We will readdress this policy this fall. I was asked last month about what kinds of things the Board spends money ...

Chairman's Notes - August 2022 - Part 1

Aug 29, 2022 ·   Chairman's Notes

Managers, there seems to be some question on how the FHC Board of Directors handles the tournament money that comes in and goes out each tournament weekend, especially when we have a shortened game situation.  Managers, all you or your Players have to do is just ask us, and we can give you a tournament rundown anytime you want.  We do not keep secrets.  Also, we are audited yearly.   An average tournament for us now is 70 teams, so that would be 70 x $250, which is $17,500.   In our scenario, we get in all ...

Chairman's Notes - July 2022

Jul 27, 2022 ·   Chairman's Notes

Managers, I have several things for you tonight.  Can you believe it is almost August?  Before we get down to business, let me share something great and awesome! On July 29 1972, I made the best decision possible of my entire life.  I married a sweet and beautiful 19 year old young woman named Sherry, and my whole life changed for the better.  On Friday we will celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary.  Like me, she became a teacher.  With her intellect and people skills, she could have been anything she wanted ...
